1st Grade Premiers 1999 - "Whatever It Takes"
Is there anything better than beating Royals in a 1st Grade decider and third consecutive 1st grade Premiership.
Brian "Buda" Rosiak playing in his 100 first grade game in the GF superbly lead this young and experienced
team, having only 4 players back up from the previous year's premiership. Things to note from the season
included Ben Person commitment to commuting three times a week from Goulbourn, Chris Hickey converting
Heath Hayes from a lock to a rock in the front row, and Joe Evers being plucked out of 5th grade one week
before the semis to star in another premiership. The classy young South African half John Joubert "JP" went
on to play Super 14's with the Sharks. Vance Pearce was more than just a good barman and big supporter of
the red army, a very handy and uncompromising lock. Bruce Heard was at his mercurial best at five eight.
Colts Premiers 1999
This game will probably be remembered for Mark Armstrong's penalty goal after the bell to win but it was an
enormous team effort. The Colts side lost the Major semi to Wests and then lost 8 players to the National
Schoolboys championships and somehow were about reverse this result in the GF. The quality of players
missing included Huia Edmonds, Chris Slack, Dave Crawford, Lee Cullane, Paul Sloan, Nick Bond and Matt
Hogan. Without doubt a lot of talented players remained but it was a mountain to climb to lose 8 of your side
for the GF. This was truly a massive effort from the remaining players and coaching staff to drink from the
premiership Cup. A very sweet victory indeed.
3rd Grade Premiers 1999
The '99 3rd grade premiership was family affair with coach Noddy Thompson and his two sons Kym and Jim Williams sharing in the premiership glory, together with the Sievers brothers Jim and Brett. Todd Cornford was a star of the GF with 2 slashing tries and the centre pairing of Perin and Curran were dangerous all day.
The memorable moment of the match was the Guy Perin's chip kick to the flying Toby Jones who tinkled toed along the sideline miraculously staying in the field of play.
This was a very young side led by Matt Smith up against some Daramalan warriors and legends in Tozer, Fox, Davis and O'Neil.
