Far South Rugby Union Grand Final - Sponsored by The Tuggeranong Vikings
Last Saturday, 23 August 2008, saw the culmination to a season of hard work for
the final two teams of the Tuggeranong Vikings sponsored Far South Rugby Union
competition, with the Grand Final being played between the Bermagui-Cobargo
Sharks and the Batemans Bay Boars, at the scenic Dickinson Oval in Bermagui
NSW.
This years final saw a changing of the guard, with both last years premiers and this years minor premiers failing to reach the decider.
Played in freezing conditions, the coldest seen in Bermagui in many a long year and with that famous Bermagui wind howling down the pitch, the match started at a fever pitch with neither side asking for or giving any quarter, both sides intent on gaining superiority through their kicking game in the strong wind and a bruising defence on the kick return.
With a large and very vocal crowd in attendance the two teams settled into the game and put on a fantastic exhibition of tough uncompromising finals football, mixed with an abundance of running rugby for the full 80 minutes, with the final score of 32 - 6 to the Batemans Bay side not indicative of the contest that actually took place.
Unfortunately the youth and exuberance of the Bermagui-Cobargo side, under the tutelage of former Wallaby Gary Pearce, was no match for the experience and strength of the Batemans Bay team.
With the Boars scoring with monotonous regularity, they gradually put the game out of reach of a brave young Bermagui side, who never gave up to the final whistle.

Also pictured is the victorious Batemans Bay side celebrating underneath the scoreboard that tells the story of a famous victory away from home.
