Committee News – November 2009
Vikings Rugby Club Committee News - November 2009
- AGM is to be held on Thursday 26th November, doors close at 7pm. All players and financial rugby club members are encouraged to attend.
- The Club has received letters of thanks from Fijian schools (Thomas Baker Memorial School and Navatusila District School) that received jumpers donated the Vikings and co-ordinated by the Wagga Reddies (Tony Kelly's Club).
- As per Club policy there will not be a major tour in 2010. We are currently looking to trial against Central West and depending on the competition structure may seek others.
- Costs to the Club for strapping in 2009 seemed very high, especially compared with other clubs. Glen will be looking at a strategy to reduce costs in this area for 2010.
- The Committee acknowledged the excellent work done by Bob Cooper in maintaining and continually improving the website.
- It was agreed that it would be great idea if a pictorial history of the club could be located on the site. Dean Browne suggested the Club encourage ex-players/supporters etc to send old photos/news articles to the club. These would then be scanned, uploaded on the website and returned to the sender. Stay tuned to the website for more on this.
- After being the force behind the creation of the Red Army in 2003 John McGrath announced that he will be removing himself from involvement in the organisation of the Red Army operations in 2010. A big thanks to John for what has been achieved to date.
- Chris will be sending out renewal Sponsorship packages for 2010 in November and working hard through November, December and January to finalise all sponsorship deals including bringing in some new sponsors.
- Jersey Design for 2010. Submissions have been received and will be considered by the new Committee.
- Recruitment is in full swing looking ahead to 2010. A number of new quality players have been identified and are considering joining the club in 2010.
- Plyer losses include Marty O'Brien and Chris Slack who are both retiring.
- Debriefing of coaching/management groups is complete. Glen will soon be meeting with Ed Hollis and Dr Reid on their involvement in 2010.
- Competition Review - A number of options have been put to Club Presidents. The Committee is supporting the option for a three round competition with the second choice being a two round competition with a pre-season comp.
Vikings Academy (Rugby Advancement Program) for 2009/2010 has commenced with new recruits showing plenty of potential.
- The Brumbies v Waratah trial will be going ahead on the 4th of February (same day as PMs XI). A Sub-Committee will be formed to ensure the smooth running of the event in the next 2 weeks and plenty of help will be required by players to assist.
- Hagar's Lunch - The creation of a small working group to take the Hagar's Lunch forward is being considered. The group will hopefully consist of ex-players and develop a strategy for the coming years.
- The 2009 Xmas Party will be announced once final preparations are confirmed. Keep an eye on the website for further updates.
